PERSONAL ASSISTANTS
LOCATION: WATERLOOVILLE, HAMPSHIRE (PO8)

Salary: £14.32 per hour

​Job Type: Two weeks on, four weeks off (*Day time 1 shift - 14 hours)

​

We are looking for compassionate, reliable Personal Assistants to join a dedicated care team supporting a warm and engaging 66-year-old gentleman.

He is a retired teacher who, following a motorcycle accident in 1987, sustained a spinal injury resulting in tetraplegia. He also lives with type 2 diabetes. Despite these challenges, he leads a full and purposeful life and is currently studying for a Master’s degree at Winchester University, with a focus on counselling.

He has a wide range of interests. He previously enjoyed wheelchair rugby and now competes in 10m Air Rifle shooting, having proudly represented Hampshire at the Invictus Games. He lives in a well-adapted three-bedroom flat with his friendly Labrador, Tom.​

About the Role

You will be part of a team providing 24-hour support, ensuring his safety, comfort, and wellbeing at all times.

​​

Requirements

  • Providing daily personal care and support

  • Assisting with eating and drinking

  • Supporting and monitoring blood glucose levels (when required)

  • Managing and supporting care of a suprapubic catheter

  • Assisting with bowel management (typically every other day)

  • Supporting safe repositioning and pressure area care (skin is fragile and requires close monitoring)

  • Assisting with hoist transfers (two carers required due to his height)

  • Being aware of and managing risks associated with autonomic dysreflexia (full training provided)

  • Important Information:

  • He has full cognitive capacity and clearly communicates his needs and preferences

  • Due to health risks, he cannot be left alone a carer must be present at all times

  • You will work as part of a supportive and experienced care team​

Specification

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Caring, respectful, and attentive

  • Reliable and able to work collaboratively within a team

  • Comfortable following clinical guidance and learning specific care routines

  • Willing to undertake training specific to his needs

Experience in complex care is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided.

​
